Artist, photographer, writer and environmentalist, Hap Wilson has been a wilderness guide for over 30 years. Hap's introduction to private expedition canoeing began in the late 1960's, one of his first adventures being in the Temagami area. Drawn to the rugged landscape and areas of old-growth forest, which surround remote rivers and lake systems, Hap returned each year to explore by foot, canoe and snowshoe as much of the Temagami area as possible. He was the park ranger for Lady Evelyn Smoothwater Park for 8 years and his passion for protecting one of the last areas of old-growth forests in Canada led to the release of his best-selling book Temagami Canoe Routes,in 1978. He developed an outfitting company in the town of Temagami which he ran for 8 years, during which time the environmental issues in Temagami escalated; actions led to the Red Squirrel Road blockade in 1989. Hap was one of the founding members of the Temagami Wilderness Society, now Earthroots, an environmental organization based in Toronto, Ontario, where he presently sits on the Board of Directors. He also participates each year as a member of the selection committee for Canada's top 10 endangered rivers with Earthwild International.

Since the release of Temagami Canoe Routes Hap has written and illustrated several other guide and photo books. Hap has written, photographed and done illustrations for various magazines including Kanawa, Canadian Geographic, Explore, Outdoor Canada, Muskoka Magazine, Cottage Times, and Canoe & Kayak, to name a few. He was also the canoeing consultant and personal canoeing and knife/hatchet throwing trainer for Pierce Brosnan in the movie Grey Owl, by Richard Attenborough and Jake Eberts.

Hap is certified with ORCA Level III Canoe Tripping.

Hap continues to write and illustrate canoeing guide books, lead numerous canoe and winter adventures throughout Canada, and host retreats for a variety of groups at the remote eco-lodge on the Lady Evelyn River, overlooking Cabin Falls, in the Lady Evelyn Smoothwater Wilderness Park.

When not at the Temagami retreat or guiding wilderness adventures, Hap lives near Rosseau, Ontario in Muskoka.
